This week's Friday Flashback is a case of an artist you've never heard of, but you really have. I stumbled upon this guy a while back and was able to find his CD and was thoroughly impressed. He went by the name Binocular. He was signed to Maverick Records and in 2001, released a self-titled album. It didn't spawn any radio hits, it didn't gather any attention, and if I hadn't stumbled upon this artist online, I never would have heard of him either.
What's most amazing is that the artist did EVERYTHING himself. I mean EVERYTHING. From vocals, to all the instruments, to recording and mixing himself. Pretty amazing in this day and age. Sadly, the album went nowhere, and the artist settled into a life of producing records for others.
Until recently, they came back, under a new name, and amassed a Top 10 Pop hit.
